PWC Wins Award
We were surprised but delighted to discover that Provo Water Company, part of the HAB Group of Companies, along with Smart Solar Ltd, has been awarded the Best Energy Resilience Project for its Middle Booster Pump Station at the 6th annual Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) Industry Awards held in Miami in April.
The CREF Industry Awards recognize outstanding achievement in the Caribbean’s transition to a clean energy future and truly showcase how far we have come along the renewable energy transition pathway.
But what is Energy Resilience?
Energy resilience refers to the ability to avoid, prepare for, minimize, adapt to, and recover from anticipated and unanticipated energy disruptions. This ensures energy availability and reliability sufficient to provide for mission assurance and readiness. Given the location of the Turks and Caicos Islands, this island nation is highly vulnerable to hurricanes, which have only intensified due to climate change.
About the Award-Winning Project
This 64kW ground-mounted photovoltaic project—more commonly known as a solar power system—was designed to reduce our dependency on fossil fuets at Provo Water Company’s middle booster pump station. Photovoltaic systems convert sunlight directly into electricity, providing a reliable and clean source of power. This system generates 64kW per hour, which is a significant amount of power. To put it in perspective, a medium-sized 2,000 sq ft home typically requires about 30kW per day, so this solar project produces more than double the daily energy needs of such a home every hour.
The awarded project at Provo Water Company exemplifies one of the many actions the HAB Group is taking to enhance the resilience of infrastructure, communities, ecosystems, and natural resources. This particular project involved constructing more resilient structures and installing solar energy solutions to bolster energy security and sustainability, alongside Smart Solar Turks and Caicos.
By investing in resilient infrastructure and renewable energy, HAB Group is leading the way in safeguarding the future of the Turks and Caicos Islands against the growing threats posed by climate change.
